BJDs: Introductions: How did I get into BJDs?

How did I get into BJDs?

July 24th 2013

Bandai Sailor Moon Dolls I’m gonna tell a lil ramble story about how I remember learning and actually becoming interested in BJDs. Yesss, all those not interested in ramblings and life rememberings by some random weird girl be warned and run for your lives.XD

I think I heard about BJDs slightly for a little while but only saw the volks SDs and MSDs which I personally found hideous and uninteresting just like every other doll really. As far as dolls go I wasn’t to big into them. The only ones I really enjoyed and played with were the 6inch Sailor Moon dolls from Bandai. Me and my sister played with them constantly and made all sorts of things for them. Also we called them brownies… and that’s what they were. Little real people in our big world. Anyways I guess that leads into my liking anime and it was at an anime convention where I actually took notice of a ball jointed doll.

Catalma – Volks 27cm Dollfie Plus Though not a resin one and she was only 27cm tall. Yep, it was a blank Volks Dollfie that I saw for sell in the dealers room. She had rooted hair with bangs to cut and a blank face to paint. This was my first BJD Catalma. I thought she was awesome cause I could customize her and the joints. Oooooh the joints and the range of movement. The dealer even suckered me into buying a Volks Who’s That Girl? catalog … which I couldn’t read or anything since it was in japanese and practically useless but it helped me figure out where to look online. Mokoko – Dollmore youth eve Hwi Ki

So eventually while rummaging around the internet looking at this stuff I learned more and saw more of the larger BJDs, but I still didn’t see any I liked. I think my friend wanted one or bought one or something and maybe I was looking for her and maybe I wanted to have one to play with her I dono but somehow I ended up at Dollmore. And that is where I finally found her. Mokoko my youth Dollmore eve Hwi Ki girl, and I loved her the moment I saw her. I loved her eyes, her face, her nose, profile, everything.

Finally I found my doll and was hooked. This one doll showed me that these dolls can actually look amazing. So I bought her, I dono if I saved or not I think I just did a few jobs and since I had no other expenses at the time I bought her, some shoes, and outfits, and eagerly waited for her.

So I guess that’s how I got into BJDs. I’m not a huge collector because I still have trouble finding sculpts I like and I’m not very active in any community or groups but I love them all the same. End rambling.
